Roscommon Drama Festival Committee held its AGM in Gleeson’s Townhouse on Wednesday night last. The Chairperson Mary Cox, the Secretary Mary Finn and the Treasurer Joe Nally presented comprehensive reports on a very successful year, the highlight of which was the hosting for the first time of the All Ireland One-Act Finals.

All three long serving and committed officers expressed the view that it was time to step aside and pass the baton to other members of the hard working committee. Members of the committee were highly complementary of the Trojan work carried out by the outgoing officers. The Treasurer Joe Nally was the link with the old Drama Festival and together with Mary Cox was instrumental in the successful revival of the festival. When Mary Finn returned to Roscommon the committee gained a very efficient and enthusiastic secretary. All three officers reassured the committee that they would give every support to the new officers and accepted the wish of the meeting to remain in a “joint” capacity for the year to facilitate a smooth transition.

The meeting appointed Caroline Egan as Chairperson and Mary Cox as Vice Chairperson. Elaine Morris was appointed Secretary with Mary Finn as Joint Secretary. Anne Murphy was appointed Treasurer with Joe Nally as Joint Treasurer. All three new officers are experienced members of the festival committee and the future of the festival is in safe and committed hands.

Already applications have come in from groups anxious to participate in the Roscommon Festival, which has gained a reputation for the efficiency of the organising committee, the excellent facilities at the Arts Centre and attentive and discerning audiences.

Local businesses have loyally supported the festival through gener ous sponsorship and are constantly approached to sponsor community events. This is something, which we should all keep in mind and ensure that we give our support to the local businesses, which are essential to the social vitality of the community.
