Roscommon
Drama Festival Results 2011
The curtain drew on the 2011 Roscommon Drama Festival last Saturday
night March 12th following 9 nights of excellent drama at Roscommon
Arts Centre. The festival concluded with adjudicator Paula Dempsey
announcing the results, and the big winners were Prosperous
Dramatic Society from County Kildare. They made their first
visit to Roscommon well worth their while, winning a total of
6 awards for their production of November by David
Mamet, including Best Stage Setting, the Main Award in the Open
Section and the Perpetual Award.
In the Confined
competition, Kilmuckridge Drama Group from Wexford again displayed
their wealth of talent winning a total of 4 awards for their
production of John B. Keanes The Field, including
the Main Award in that category.
In her closing
address Adjudicator Paula Dempsey complimented the Arts Centre
and audience for the way in which they engaged with the festival,
and she extended her gratitude to all for the warm welcome she
received during her stay in Roscommon.
Festival
Chairperson Mary Cox also extended a sincere thank you to everyone
who supported, sponsored and contributed over the past number
of months. She highlighted that 4 of the 9 nights had sold out
and that such interest and enthusiasm boded well for the festival
as it continues to build a national profile into the future.
