More about Bríd
Adjudicating drama festivals at home and abroad takes up most
of her time. In 1996 she adjudicated an International Festival
in Racine Wisconsin and the following year the American National
Finals in Grand Rapids Michigan. Then it was to Canada - the New
Brunswick Provincial
Festival, the World Festival of Children's Theatre in Toyama Japan,
the Eastern States Finals in Delaware, USA and The All-Ireland
One Act Festival in Siamsa Tire, Tralee. She
has worked consistently since 2000 as an adjudicator for the US
Army Europe judging their 3 Act Festival which takes place over
a six week period in Springtime at a multitude of venues from
Italy to Belgium, Germany, England and places in between. Recently
she judged the Army’s One Act Festival in Heidelberg, Germany.
Twenty-two groups travelled in from bases in Turkey, Korea and
mainland Europe to compete for the prestigious prizes on offer.
Last year Bríd adjudicated the American International Festival
which was held in Midland Texas. Groups from Singapore, the U.S.,
Monaco, Catalonia, Ireland, Spain, Germany, Tunisia and Syria
participated.
She has had a story published in the Sunday Miscellany book edited
by Marie Heaney. One of the highlights of her career so far was
the opportunity to interview Nobel Prize Winning poet Seamus Heaney
in the Linenhall Library, Belfast. Since 2002 Brid has been President
of the Dundalk International Maytime Festival which last year
celebrated it’s 42nd. Anniversary. During that time Dundalk
has welcomed performers and visitors from all corners of the globe
including Japan, South Korea, Beijing China, all corners of America,
Canada, England, Scotland, Wales, Iceland, Germany. In 2006 Bríd
and the Maytime Festival Committee were awarded the County and
Regional Failte Ireland Welcome Awards for going that extra mile
in welcoming visitors to Dundalk.
